Current people in the lab
I'm looking for graduate students who think plants are pretty awesome.
Current students
Matthew Doering, PhD Student (Fall 2016 - Present)
Stemming from a love of black pepper, rooted in childhood, Matthew is investigating the evolution of biosynthetic genes in Piper nigrum (black pepper) and related species. Specifically, he is cloning and characterising genes involved in piperine biosynthesis in P. nigrum, sequencing transcriptomes of related species in the Piperaceae to identify corresponding genes in related biosynthetic pathways, and developing gene capture arrays to sequence the genomic regions of gene families in several species to further the understanding of the evolution of these genes.

Jay Best - Summer 2015
Just look at this guy! He's going to be a doctor. The medical kind, not the plant research kind.
Currently enrolled in the University of Manitoba Medical School.
